Protests against the British monarchy continue
A year after the death of Britain's longest-reigning monarch, Elizabeth II, protests continue against the continuation of the monarchy and the rule of Charles III. The protests against Elizabeth II's expensive funeral have risen amid the country's economic woes, and the anti-monarchy movement known as "Republican" has held several protests, AAA news agency reported.
The movement, which has thousands of members and tens of thousands of supporters, has been calling for a referendum on the future of the British monarchy for years and claims the system is a reminder of the pressures Britain's monarchs have placed on the people. Even now, a year after Elizabeth's death, not only have the protests not subsided, but according to statistics, at least a third of the British public consider the monarchy to be an unnecessary, expensive and outdated element.
