AFP reported that Pilar Alegría, spokesperson for the Spanish government, in a press conference on Friday (22/12/2023) rejected the United States' claims and announced that Spain had not decided to join the new naval coalition led by the United States in the Red Sea. "Spain never participates unilaterally in operations and all decisions are always made under the umbrella of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)," said Alegria. Previously, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin claimed that a coalition had been formed to counter the Yemeni army's operations in the Red Sea with members from the United States, Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Norway. Netherlands, Canada, Bahrain and Seychelles. So far, Yemeni fighters have seized or targeted several ships belonging to the Zionist regime or ships carrying cargo for Israel. (PH)
