The highest court in Ghana has overturned a decision that had led to the suspension of parliamentary activities a few months before the elections.
The move effectively halted all legal activity two months before the country's general election, which is expected to be a tight race at a time when the country is trying to revive itself economically following a major financial crisis .
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has said that, considering the irreparable harm that may befall the parliamentary constituencies with thousands of citizens of the country, it was important for the court to deal with the dispute immediately .
The conflict was fueled by the conflict between President Nana Akufo-Addo's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) which won a narrow victory after four MPs resigned .
The decision of the Supreme Court is now expected to conclude what has led to the emergence of great tension between the ruling party and the opposition wing in Ghana.
