The United Nations was shocked by the killing of 50 people in Mali
The head of the United Nations Human Rights Office has expressed his dismay at the recent killing of dozens of people in Mali.
In a statement yesterday Alkhamisi, Volker Turk said he was shocked by the arbitrary killings carried out by the Malian army and foreign soldiers against 25 citizens in the village of Welingara in the Nara area, in the center of Mali on January 26. In addition, the high-level United Nations official said he was disappointed by the reports of the killing of 30 people in attacks carried out by unknown gangs and armed men in the villages of Ogota and Oimbe in the Bandiagara area in the center of the country at the end of last week. This comes less than a week after the military regime in Mali announced the termination of the important peace agreement of 2015 signed by the Northern separatist groups, following several months of hostilities between the rebels and the army. Last December, the United Nations peacekeeping force in Mali (MINUSMA) announced the official end of its duties in the country after ten years of service. The departure of the MINUSMA force is part of the restructuring of the security plan initiated by the military administration of Mali that took power in 2020.
