Water is a tool of war of the Zionist regime against the people of Gaza
The UN special rapporteur called on the Zionist regime not to use water as a “weapon of war” against the defenseless people of Gaza. Following the escalation of attacks by the Israeli army on Gazans, the Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA) announced that approximately 70% of the strip's residents were drinking "salty and contaminated" water. Sewage is also flowing through Gaza's streets in some areas, and the UN is unable to dispose of the waste due to fuel shortages, according to UNRWA. According to UN, Pedro Arrojo Agudo, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, addressed the Zionist regime on Friday and said: “Deliberately preventing the flow of resources needed to provide safe water to the Gaza Strip is violation of international humanitarian and human rights law." “Every hour that Israel, contrary to international law, prevents the provision of safe drinking water in the Gaza Strip, exposes the residents of this region to the risk of death from thirst and diseases associated with a lack of safe drinking water,” Agudo said. The Gaza Strip is seeing an increase in water shortages and water-borne diseases due to “consumption of salty and contaminated water,” Agudo warned. The UN official also stressed that fuel shortages in Gaza are hampering the supply of safe and clean water to the region.
Meanwhile, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said on Thursday that widespread disease and famine in the Gaza Strip are inevitable, warning that with limited access to fuel and other resources in the Gaza Strip, "massive outbreaks of infectious diseases and famine are inevitable." On October 7, 2023, Palestinian resistance forces launched a surprise operation called Al-Aqsa Storm from the Gaza Strip (in southern Palestine) against the positions of the occupying Quds Force regime and this regime, in order to take revenge and compensate for its defeat and stop resistance operations, closed all control checkpoints in the Gaza Strip, constantly bombing residential and medical areas of this enclave region. The Zionist regime killed more than 12,000 Gazans, including 5,000 children and 3,300 women. As a result of the Israeli regime's attacks on the Gaza Strip, 3,640 people are missing, of which 1,770 are children. These attacks also affected 29,800 Palestinians, 70% of whom were women and children. US President Joe Biden strongly supports attacks by the Zionist regime. Despite popular demonstrations in support of Gazans, he said he opposed a ceasefire in the war. Observers say the actions of the usurping Israeli regime, including cutting off electricity, limiting aid to Gaza and carrying out attacks on Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, are examples of war crimes under international law.
