Türkiye and Egypt open a new page in bilateral relations
Egypt wishes to open a new page in relations with Turkey This was stated by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, in a press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, held during his visit to Ankara, the second in less than two months. The Nova agency reports it. On the occasion, Shoukry made it known that he had agreed with Cavusoglu the timing for the return of the respective ambassadors and the preparations for a summit between the presidents of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Egypt, Abdel Fattah al Sisi.
"Egypt is trying to reduce the obstacles that hinder the strengthening of Egyptian-Turkish relations", said the head of Egyptian diplomacy, according to which the various meetings with Turkey are an indication of the political will to improve bilateral relations in all sectors, including the energy sector. Shoukry then declared that the volume of trade with Turkey has reached 10 billion dollars and the figure is expected to increase in the next period, with the hope that it will reach 15 billion.
The Egyptian foreign minister has called on the Turkish side to work in the economic zone of the Suez Canal, underlining that this offers many investment opportunities. "We have discussed regional and international issues and there is a broad level of understanding and consensus," Shoukry further said, adding, "We have a common desire to work with Libyan institutions and fulfill their responsibilities to hold free and fair elections, in order to form a government that expresses the will of the Libyan people". Finally, the minister highlighted the need to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and to put an end to the presence of foreign forces in the country.
