Thousands of people in Niger staged demonstrations on Saturday demanding the withdrawal of French troops from that country. According to AAA, the demonstration took place in the city of Niamey, the capital of Niger. Protesters held signs against the presence of French troops and the need to leave Niger. In this regard, a coalition of civic groups in Niger called for a three-day sit-in in the African country. The military government of Niger on Friday accused France of openly interfering in the country's affairs and supporting the ousted president. Meanwhile, on Friday, protesters staged a similar demonstration near a French military base. Mohamed Bazum, the former president of Niger and a French ally, was arrested in July by members of his own bodyguards.

French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to Bazum on Friday and praised his commitment, actions and courage. Colonel Amadou Abdramane, a spokesman for the military government of Niger, said: "Macron's statements and his ongoing efforts speak in favor of an invasion of Niger in order to continue the colonial policy towards the people." In the midst of tensions weeks after Bazum's resignation, Niger's military government's Foreign Office last week gave the French ambassador 48 hours to leave the country. Sylvain Itte ignored this move and remained in office, which was praised by the President of France. The military government of Niger has stated that Itte no longer enjoys the privileges and immunities associated with his status as a member of the embassy's diplomatic staff.
